Instead of analyzing every line and shape independently, the mind groups information into familiar patterns. That shortcut allows fast recognition in everyday life, but it also creates blind spots when a puzzle deliberately hides a detail inside a larger design.

A systematic method usually works better than staring harder. Divide the picture into sections, move in one direction, and record what has already been counted. When shapes overlap, list them by size. When two images are compared, check outlines, colors, spacing, direction, and repeated objects separately.
